What Plumbing Work Costs in Louisiana — and Why Quotes Vary So Much
Nobody enjoys asking what something costs and being told "it depends." Here is a real explanation of what drives plumbing prices, and roughly where things land.
Why two quotes for the same job differ by hundreds
Four things, usually.
Scope definition. One quote includes the permit, the haul-away and the expansion tank. The other adds them at the end. The second looks cheaper on the phone and is not cheaper on the invoice.
Diagnosis depth. Clearing a drain and leaving is cheaper than clearing a drain, cameraing the line, and telling you the clog will return in six weeks because of a belly. The second one costs more today and less over two years.
Material choice. A builder-grade water heater and a mid-tier one with a longer warranty are a few hundred dollars apart. A quote that does not name the model is not a comparable quote.
Access. A water heater in an open garage and one in a second-floor closet behind a narrow door are different jobs with the same equipment.
Rough ranges for common work
These are broad. Your house is not a spreadsheet, and anyone giving exact numbers without seeing the job is guessing.
| Job | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Drain clearing, single fixture | Low hundreds |
| Main line clearing through cleanout | Mid hundreds |
| Hydro jetting a main line | High hundreds |
| Water heater repair (element, thermocouple, valve) | Low to mid hundreds |
| Tank water heater replacement, installed | Low thousands |
| Tankless installation with gas and vent work | Mid thousands |
| Leak detection and location | Mid hundreds |
| Slab leak spot repair | Low thousands |
| Sewer camera inspection | Mid hundreds |
| Sewer line repair, spot | Low to mid thousands |
| Trenchless lining or replacement | Mid thousands and up |
After-hours and emergency work carries a premium, and you should be told that number on the phone before dispatch — not discover it on the invoice.
Where people actually lose money
Not on the price of the repair. On these:
Waiting. A slab leak running for two months costs the repair *plus* two months of wasted water *plus* whatever the soil erosion does to the foundation.
Repeat clearing. Paying three times a year to cable the same line is more expensive than fixing what causes it, and everyone knows it by the third visit.
Repairing a failed tank. A water heater with a leaking tank cannot be repaired. Money spent trying is money gone.
Cheap emergency work. The 2am fix that gets undone in a month costs twice.
How we price
Flat rate, quoted before work starts, agreed by you. If we open something up and it is genuinely different from what was described, we stop and re-quote — we do not keep working and hand you a bigger number.
That means occasionally we quote higher than someone else on the phone. It also means our invoice matches our quote.

Describe the problem at (833) 435-9778 and we will tell you what it typically costs, what would change that, and when we can be there. If we can talk you out of needing us, we will do that too — it happens more often than you would think, particularly on water heater calls.
